Definition and any types a ROM (Read Only Memory)

ROM (Read Only Memory)
Is a type of primary storage that can be read but not writable. ROM has been filled by the manufacturer in the form of an operating system that consists of programs-programs that required basic computer system.
Instructions stored in ROM called microinstruction or firmware for hardware and software into one by the manufacturer. The contents of this ROM should not be lost or damaged because if so, then the computer system will not be able to function. Therefore, to prevent the factory ROM designing such a way that can only be read, not its contents can be changed by others. In addition, the ROM is non-volatile so that its contents are not lost when the computer is turned off.
ROM that can be reprogrammed are:
1. PROM (Programmable Read Only Memory) that can be programmed only once and then can not be changed back.
2. EPROM ((Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory) which daapat erased with ultraviolet light and can be programmed over and over - again.
3. EEPROM (Erasable Programmable Electricall Read Only Memory) that can be erased electronically and can be reprogrammed.
